Our Story

The inaugural AYI program in Ghana launched in partnership with the Teshie branch of the Ghana Libraries Authority in August 2016. Since then, we have served over 1,000 children aged 8 to 17 through various enriching programs, including reading sessions, collaborative educational activities, and sports events. From 2016 to 2019, AYI Ghana operated in two elementary schools—Vichrist Secondary School and Rokai Memorial School. In December 2017, we established a dedicated Youth Centre featuring a library and IT center to enhance our support for local youth. Today, we offer mentoring, counseling, and support services in both Ghana and Australia tailored to young people facing challenges that threaten their education, such as financial constraints, mental health issues, and potential involvement with the criminal justice system. By providing a nurturing environment and targeted resources, we empower youth to overcome obstacles and achieve their academic and personal goal

Ghana Project

Our Ghana project is guided by a volunteer board, ensuring that programs are locally led and culturally relevant. Collaborating closely with our Australian AYI Centre partners, we leverage international insights while employing trained staff in Ghana to deliver sustainable educational and mentoring initiatives. Through these efforts, we aim to create lasting change and foster a brighter future for young people in Ghana. Our donations fund a dedicated Youth Centre, which includes a well-resourced Kids Library and IT Centre, along with two additional Youth Libraries serving the community five days a week. AYI Ghana also offers a variety of activity-based programs that promote mental and physical health, along with youth leadership training to empower the next generation of leaders.

Australia / Sydney Project

We are committed to fostering cultural engagement and providing essential support services to African youth in Australia. Our offerings include interactive workshops that empower young people by enhancing their cultural identity, unique African coffee ceremony sessions that promote meaningful dialogue, and tailored cultural competency training for organizations. Additionally, we provide personalized casework and advocacy services, organize events for networking and personal development, and offer student placement opportunities to help youth gain practical experience.
